GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Hello All:
HBL Porsche has agreed to hold a GT Tech Session for our Register on August 6, Saturday, which they will have GT3/RS in display and on the lift to go over the details of the vehicle. A GT specialist will also be on hand to answer technical questions, and we will have a cookout and socialize with all that are in attendance. It is an exciting event for me as I know HBL puts out great events for all PCA, and this will also correspond with the Tech Inspection session for Potomac Region's PorscheFest event the following weekend. I will post more details in this thread, but I am also looking for any topics you would liked covered during this tech session, so we can get back the answer you all have been wondering to the best ability that the dealership can share of course. HBL is owned by Penske Automotive, and hence they have been on the favorites list of PCNA for some time now, and I'll leave it at that. Also, the Service Manager, Chad Morrison, is the best I have ever dealt with, and this dealership actually takes care of my car primarily, and they know very well what I do with it ;) So, keep your questions coming, and put your name into the list if you intend to attend. Attendees: 1- Fatih 2- Stu 3- Bman 4- NeoMatrix 5- Lightweight (maybe) 6- . . Topic Suggestion: - CL recall, differences - Coolant Lines - LSD - Brakes - Tapering - Brakes - Ice Mode - Engine Maintenance - Service History, weaknesses and strengths of the 997.1 and .2 cars, typical and atypical warranty claims from the service manager's perspective - ... (let's keep adding) |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Fatih,
I think I should be able to get there. Put me down. Stu |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Oh yea, what time?
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
We will run starting at 10 am till probably 3 or 4 pm. The first part will be the tech inspection for PorscheFest, and our Tech 101 will start afterwards; but we are working the details as we speak.

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Are they looking for any donor cars to demonstrate oil changes? Diff re-pack? etc... :)
An example GT2 on the lift would be superb ;) We can discuss any topic you all want, I think the diff topic would be good. |

If there's a GT2 on the lift I may be tempted to drive down from PA for the event :)

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Hmmm, Brain, we need your GT2 :D

Seriously, I happy to bring it. I'll be at the Glen, hopefully you will too, the weekend before, so I just need to make it presentable in time. |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
You're awesome, thank you Brian. So, I am putting you down as a definite, not a maybe ;)
Also, it may be better to have the car as-is from Glen, so we can see all the speed on it :D So, Lightweight should we count you in too? |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Thanks for organizing. You've put me under pressure to attend :) I'm an 80% yes (work occasionally calls me away).
Additional (GT2-related) topics of interest to me would be: Wheels and tires Brakes (rotor options / sizes / caliper clearance) Suspension (incl. GT2 vs. GT2RS vs. GT3RS) |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
No pressure at all, no commitments ;) this is more of a social event while enjoying few GTs from underneath :)
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
I would like to attend but have a customer commitment that weekend, unless something changes I won't be able to make it.
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
I hope you get to make it Todd, but customers come 2nd to family :)
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
If I take that attitude, I won't be able to afford any more ho ho's :(
Saw your car this weekend but could never find you. |

I saw your car too and heard great things about your driving in red, but I could not find you either. I had to say under the shades, so I was always under some tent or indoors, and I was either with my student or getting a ride with someone, so I was on track almost every session, except my own :D |

I haven't touched the car since the return, been so busy with work, so no, I haven't yet confirmed.

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Fatih,
Any chance I could pay them to wash my car while we're there? Been busy and it's a mess. See you Saturday. Stu |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
I am not sure, it may be possible. I am going to see them this afternoon and I'll ask. You can also give them a call and ask if you'd like, ask for Chad.
Cheers, |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Yes they will have the wash service :)
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
I will attend - you can remove my "maybe".
Looking forward to the session, and meeting people! |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Excellent Wes, looking forward to meeting you.
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Gents, unfortunately I will not be able to get there. Bman, thanks for offering your 2 to the lift :). Much appreciated. Hopefully there is another event of this type in the near future.

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Fatih, did you get free from work so you can attend Porschefest?
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Unfortunately not Larry, I have way too much to do in the next two months, it will be hard to take any days off. :(
|
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Cannot wait to see and meet everyone, I'll be there around 11 am.
Cheers all, |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
It appears that I will be there closer to noon, I have to take my son to his chess tournament.

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT ATTENDED, TO PORSCHE OF TYSONS and POTOMAC REGION PCA!!!
At least from my perspective, the event turned out great, but of course my opinion does not count much. As we held our event in conjunction with the Potomac Region's tech inspection for the upcoming PorscheFest next weekend, there were a lot of attendees, interested people and awesome traffic overall. I could not participate in much of the listening of the tech stuff as I was busy talking to people and taking pictures, but there were some very interesting discussions; I saw some old friends, made new ones and enjoyed the social environment tremendously. It was just a superb Saturday for me, I hope all that attended enjoyed it as much as I did. Here are few select pictures, the rest are in the album: Peter, who is not on our web boards yet, had his 997.2 GT3RS on the lift; it had a sequential shifter and few other tricks done by FunktionAuto: BMAN, GT3DE and his girlfriend, Sly, are exchanging notes from the last track event: A GT2RS was on the lift as well: Chad Morrison, Service Manager at Porsche of Tysons, giving part of the tech session: Interest in the GTs was high even from non-GT owners: BMAN had his GT2 available as well, so we could see the latest tricks on it: Heavy discussion on technicals :), while BMAN's oil was being changed: SMF32s, after his car was washed, checked his tire pressures getting ready for his SCCA Solo II event on Sunday: Thank you all for coming. |

Glad the event went well Fatih! Great pics. http://www.digitalsimple.com/gifs/naughty.gif :D

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Great event!
Big thanks for Fatih for organizing and to Porsche of Tysons for hosting. They rolled out the red carpet for us. Grilled brats, cold drinks and amazing service bays. Air conditioned, tile floors, every tool put away, etc...impressive! But the real reason this was a great event was Chad and Thomas, the Porsche techs, who are the best. You seemingly can't stump them when it comes to a question about these cars and they not afraid to talk about known problems. Their honesty and candid discussions, IMO, go along way in strenghtening my loyalty and appreciation of the Porsche brand. |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Great event and fun meeting everyone and talking all things Porsche. Chad and the crew from the dealership were great and I think I have a new dealer for service. Speaking with Bman, GT3DE, and of course, Fatih is defintely wetting my appetite to get back on the track. You guys might finally entice me out there yet. Thanks for the fun afternoon.

Yes, BMAN, you can floor it. Seriously, I do it all the time on the track. No, I am not kidding. Yes, yes, yes, just floor it. lol |
Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Thanks for a wonderful event. Good see everyone. See you this weekend - without the A/C garage!

Are you saying that Sly hangs around Clarke so she can trash his GT3 in white group?

Re: GT TECH 101 - Event Input and Details
Looks like a good time. Sorry I missed it.
I'll have to console myself by chasing Ryan, Bman, and Clarke this coming Friday-Sunday. -KJ |
