Potomac PorscheFest

This past weekend was Potomac region's annual PorscheFest. We host a 3 day DE, Fri-Sun, and Autocross on Saturday. There's a catered BBQ dinner Saturday night, that's terrific, and included for all DE participants but has a big turnout with family and friends coming out for the day. Taste of the Track is run Sat & Sun and has a huge turnout, so big that we have dedicated 20 minute sessions each day.

The best part of PorscheFest is the Wounded Warrior program! We host Vets and their families on Saturday. Volunteers escort families and cruise the paddock so they can hang out with the drivers and check out the cars. Vets and their family members, including kids, can get ride alongs on the autocross track. And then the last track session of the day is for hot lapping with the Vets. They absolutely love it and the instructor have as much fun, if not more, than the Vets. I was honored and fortunate to give hot laps for two Vets and it was a blast.

I struggled with understeer all weekend but that's a normal complaint of mine at SP. I was too busy to change my sways in hopes of finding more front grip. I only have video of the 1st day because my wife took the camera, in her Cayman, Sat/Sun. I think I ran a second quicker on Saturday by tossing it more in the carousel rather than trying to build momentum like you'll see in this clip. Sorry the SmartyCam is having an audio/video sync problem where the audio is playing slightly ahead of the video.

Looks like I missed a fun ride and the weather looked very nice. I'll have to wait for another event. Glad you enjoyed it.

Had to go out of town for a business meeting and did not get back til midday Sunday. My misfortune looks like it turned into your good luck!

I'll take the rain check and force my ugly mug on you in the future.

Fantastic driving Brian; 19s baby, fantastic, and very close to 18s. Enjoyed watching, nice, smooth, controlled, no frills 19s, awesome!!!

Thanks FTS! I wasn't trying to set any track records.

I was losing ground to a few cars, including the Vette in this clip, from T6-T9 on Friday. If the audio was sync'd properly you could hear the front tires howl everytime I turned in. I was trying not to fight the understeer by going slow in/fast out but that didn't work very well. The following day I tried more aggressive throttle steering which worked much better. I actually gained ground on cars that I was even with or losing ground to the day before. Pretty sure there were some 18's but don't have video to prove it.;)

Brian, what gear are you usually in in T1, T3, T5, and T10?

Larry,

I might choose a gear lower if there's traffic or late passing but these are typical.

T1 - 3rd
T3 - 4th
T5 - 3rd
T10 - 4th

Hey, when are you going to ask me ride with you? :(

Hey, when are you going to ask me ride with you? :(

Just trying to get the car sorted out, hopefully by the time VIR rolls around, then I'd be glad to have you ride with me.

Takes one to know one! :pals:

I'd make you proud in the bar too! I know I lost credibility with you when I turned down that beer at VIR but.....I had a 5 hour drive home!
