Default 2012 NY Auto Show

I attended the 2012 NY Auto Show Friday, April 6th. It was openeing day and PCA had a special event for 100 attendees at the Porsche exhibition before the show actually opened and the maddening crowds arrived. It was breakfast and presentations by Porsche NA officials of the present car lineup, including the new Boxster...designated the 981...and the new 911...designated the 991. The Cayenne Diesel was also introduced and will now be available in the USA.

The new 991 lineup at this point is the Carrera, Carrera S, and the Cabriolet. Longer, leaner, lower, more powerful, and more efficient. Updated interior designed after the GT car. Now available with a 7-speed or PDK. Sorry folks, no GT3 or GT3 RS yet.

The new Boxster 981 is a beauty as well. It too is is longer with a wider track for more stability in the turns. Upgrades to the engine make it more efficient as well. The interior too was inspired by the GT car. It looks longer and more sleek. Look at the front view with the newly designed headlights. The top comes down in 9 seconds, an improvement over the previous Boxster. The optional 2 tone interior is stunning. The car at the show was Lime Gold...a new color...with an interior of Black/Lime Gold. Look at the rear. The spoiler blends into the rear lights which make it flow right into the corners and fenders.A beautiful piece of machinery well designed and presented. Anyone will look great cruising down the highway or whipping around those country roads with the top down. Bring your sunglasses and sunblock 'cause you won't want to raise the lid!!! Bring your partner...being politically correct... 'cause you'll want to share the experience.

Other then the Porsches...is there truly anything else...there were so many presentations to get excited over. The new Viper came out and onto the platform with 640 hp and an all new design. Meaty powerful car, but in my opinion does not looked refined.

Audi had an R8 in a Matte Blue finish. That's right, no shine. Imagine the work to keep it clean? BMW also offers a Matte Blue finish on some of its cars. Just don't get under any birds and stay out of the rain. That acid would probably be a Detailers nightmare.

Wow, the Bugatti is, well, a Bugatti. Look at that car, it just exudes power, strength, and speed.

So many cars, so many choices, so many configurations. Step up, make your choice, check the boxes, pay the fare and drive away. Whether you are looking for a daily driver, a fuel efficient Fiat, a track toy, a status symbol, a top down cruiser, a go anywhere vehicle, or a family sedan, the 2012 NY Auto Show was the place to be.
